ABOUT US
Cark Manor, as it is now known, was originally built in 1815 for James Newby, a wealthy landowner and became known as Cark Villa in around 1840. In 1901 substantial work was undertaken on the house, which was now known as ‘Winder’ and in 1911, Dr Wakefield installed his household, including servants and set up his surgery in the house. In fact, original ‘night bell’ is still evident outside the old surgery door. By the time they moved out in the 1940’s the property had become known as Cark Manor and had three different owners, until it was purchased in 2004 by the current owners, the Haythornthwaite Family. In 2006 the property underwent a substantial overhaul costing over £1,000,000 converting it into a five star, nine-bedroom conference and events centre for Mr Haythornthwaite’s company, as well as the weekend home for his friends and family. In 2020, a further renovation took place to upgrade The Lodge at the entrance, all the bedrooms and the extensive cellar areas. It was at this time the substantial garden renovations also started and is ongoing.
Now ready for a new chapter in its life, Cark Manor has ten bedrooms and can take up to 20 adult guests. Each bedroom has a distinct and separate theme which have been inspired by David and Sharon’s experiences of some of the best hotels around the world.
At Cark Manor we have set the bar very high, and every aspect of your stay will be in the capable hands of our on-site house manager, who can either be at your beck and call or stay discreetly in the background, whichever you prefer.
