COLONY HOTEL
PALM BEACH
Room four is the smallest bedroom in the house but often a favourite of our regular friends.
If you’ve stayed at the hotel, you will know why this is a perfect match for The Colony Club, as you will be shocked by the size of its rooms relative to its sky-high prices. However, it is always full and for a reason. Location, bar and pool. Save for The Brazilian Court, there are no other hotels in downtown and not one where you step out of the front door onto Worth Avenue, Palm Beach’s own Rodeo Drive.
The first time we checked in apart from being horrified by the size of the room and even worse the bathroom, we found a large white stain on the rather tired green carpet. Having summoned the manager, a young man arrived who got both barrels. I explained in the nicest way that apart from not being able to swing the proverbial cat it appeared as though the previous “afternoon guest” had prematurely ejaculated over the carpet.
It could have gone either way, as these things, do but thank god he thought this hilarious and promptly took us under his wing for the rest of our stay ensuring great seats at dinner by the pool, day and night, which is a big ask here. He also, much to Sharon’s surprise, moved us, but only into a room of the same size but as he gleefully pointed out “with a clean carpet”.
The bar and pool are the place to be here although the pool is very small and we have spent many an hour watching the great and the good and sometimes the bad, preen and parade themselves from dawn to dusk. A special place.
