NAPLES
FLORIDA
You can’t do that said Sharon, name all the other rooms after hotels but this one after a place. I can it’s our place I said and anyway Naples deserves a room named after it.
Whereas Palm Beach is typically New York, loud, brash and flash Naples, as the locals are at pains to point out is “Mid-West” money, just as much, but understated. It’s often referred to as “God’s Waiting Room” for obvious reason and as my 84-year-old Ferrari driving neighbour told me the first time we shared a cocktail, ‘until you move to Naples, you think you are old and rich but quickly discover you are neither!’
Never a truer word was spoken.
We first started going to Naples in 2009 and regularly returned every year staying at The Inn On Fifth for many years before eventually buying our own place. If Naples is ‘Gods Waiting Room’ then I can’t wait to meet God, as it’s a truly wonderful place. People are so polite and respectful, so much so that if you even give the slightest hint of crossing the road the traffic comes to a screeching stop. Despite its wealth, it’s the safest place we have ever been, with amazing houses (they think nothing of paying $10million for a house and then knocking it down to build a bigger and better one) manicured gardens and great restaurants and bars, again, all within easy walking distance. We hope to spend a lot of time there in future years.
